K-1's broken wrist

The other day I received a call on my cell phone just as I was pulling into my garage after dropping K-4 off at kindergarten.  It was the school secretary calling to tell me that K-1 had broken his wrist playing rugby during recess.  I put it in reverse and headed back to the school (about a ten minute drive).  On the way, I phoned our doctor and made an appointment.  Here is what I found when I picked him up:

Our doctor sent us to the hospital to get x-rays and then referred us to an orthopedic doctor.  I wish I had a picture of the x-ray.

He had good news and bad news.  The bad news first:  the tip of his radius was broken clean off.  The good news:  no surgery needed and the break wasn't through the growth plate.  The best news:  lots of attention and he got to pick the colors of his cast.

Then we all got to sign it.

It wasn't nearly as traumatic as the time he had his finger slammed in a car door or to quote K-l, "crushed to a fine powder."  (I think he has read Harry Potter too many times.)  I didn't take him to the doctor until almost a week later.  It was really bad.  No awesome Mom award for me that time.

Church Talent Show

Our ward had a talent show and the K-boys were excited to participate.

K1 played the trombone.  What does the one pant leg rolled up mean?  That he is packing heat?  I hope not.

Mr. K and the rest of the K-boys put on a great performance.

Mr. K played his didgeridoo.  It is made from agave wood.  He is really good.

The K-boys made their own didges out of PVC pipe.

K5 played the recorder and did a little dance that reminds me of a snake charmer.

We adopted this guy (our neighbor) because he is such an awesome didge player.  He can circle breathe.

This is one of K1's best friends.   He spends a lot of time at our house so he is an honorary K-boy.  He played the piano and sang.  It was so cute cool!

You may be wondering why I didn't participate in the didgeridoo concert.  Let's just say that if you ask me what sound a horse makes I'll say neigh.

Baby Shower

I hosted a baby shower for my SIL in April.  It was lots of fun.  Of course I hired my favorite caterer Mr. K.  (Warning:  The following pictures may cause excessive salivation.)

I gave her the cutest, little tu-tu I have ever seen.  It had ribbons and sparkly rhinestones on it.  I should have taken a better picture of it.  This picture makes it look like a clown wig.

New Cushions

I am finally done with my new cushions for the window seat.  I took lots of pictures of the progress because I knew you would want to see them.  :)

I love this fabric!  It is brownish purple or purplish brown to match the living room.

Here you can see my compulsive planning so I don't waste any fabric.

I started by cutting out the pieces and making the welt.

Then I sewed the welt on to the top just along the front and sides.

Here are two cushions with the sides sewn on.
The zipper ended up giving me fits.  I sewed it to the back and the bottom.  I decided that I don't care if it looks bad because no one will see it.
Here they are finished!  I love the way it looks.

Next up is making the pillows to go on the bench.  Don't hold your breath waiting.  I have a busy 3 weeks ahead of me.

Note:  if you come over, please don't look at the zippers.  Thanks.
