Doors, Roof and a Surprise

Mr. K special ordered some "freakin shiny awesome" roofing for the coop.

It looks so good!  He also got the doors done with a little help from K4 and K5.

We are getting close and it is a good thing because the chickens are getting big fast.

On another note, here are a few pictures from my 9 mile run today.

Yep, that's a snake.  I'm estimating it was about 4 feet long. Yikes!  I'm glad it didn't have a rattle!

Guess who got a real bunny of his own?

It all started the other day when Mr. K came home from work.  He had seen a sign advertising rabbits for sale and asked me if we should run and get one for K5.  How spur of the moment!  How impulsive!  Of course I said yes.  (We are wild you know.)  Unfortunately they only had white rabbits with pink eyes.  Those kind freak me out.  Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to a pink eyed killer rabbit flying across the room.  Ok, maybe don't imagine that but you see why we couldn't get one right?

I looked at the classifieds on my iphone and found a couple of listings for baby bunnies.  I called the first one and asked him if the bunnies had creepy pink eyes.  Nope, it was gray.  Sold!  We got home with the bunny and K5 was thrilled.  He said he didn't believe it was real at first.  I should have taken a picture of his face when he realized it was.  Since we hadn't planned on buying a bunny, we had no food, cage, litter box, etc. so Turbo spent the night in a Rubbermaid tub.

The next day we went to Petsmart and stocked up on rabbit supplies and built a little "habitat" for her with baby gates and zip ties.
K5 has been feeding her dandelion leaves and taking great care of her.

Just so you can see how much he loves rabbits:  They all have names, FunBun, Carrot Fly, Max, JackPot and Jackolantern.  There are more than 30 stuffed rabbits and we are missing Peter Cotton tail and one of the ebay bunnies that we know of.

The happiest 5 year old I know.
P.S.  The chickens don't like her.

A Novel

K2 is writing a novel.  For reals.

He told me all about the plot and characters in great detail.  He has an amazing imagination.  A few years ago he wrote and illustrated a series of short stories about Honey Rabbit for K5 using his spelling words.

He is awesome.  When it is published I am choosing it for our book club's monthly book.  Maybe he'll come and sign everyone's copies.

Baby Chicks!

We purchased our baby chicks a couple of weeks ago and I can't believe how fast they have grown!  Faster than the Kboys!

The Kboys love them and have given them some great names.  Here is K3 with his Rhode Island Red chicken Aunt Joe.  He wanted to name it Uncle Joe but it turns out only girl chickens lay eggs.

K5 named his Wyandotte chicken Young Warlock.  I'm not sure where that came from.  I don't even know what a warlock is.

K4 named his Leghorn chicken Ninja.  I'm sure you understand where that came from just by looking at the picture.

Our last one doesn't have a name yet.  K1 and K2 aren't interested in naming her.  The cute little neighbor girl said she would call her Fuzzy Midnight so maybe we'll go with that.
We are trying to play with them a lot so they are tame.  K1 taking his turn.

Here is what they look like today, about 3 weeks old.

The kids love them and are having fun taking care of them.
We'll see how long that lasts once they have to clean out the coop.

Bunny House

K5 has been doing extra jobs and saving his money so he could buy a bunny house kit from the grocery store.

He needed one for the bunnies he bought on ebay.
Luckily his awesome uncle was there to help or at least watch.  K5 didn't want anyone to touch it.
It turned out pretty cool:
My little honey rabbit.

Lucky me.
